You may have heard the news: it is now possible to run Android the OS from Google on the Apple iPhone. This is quite an achievement and while it is only Android 1.6 and not yet fully usable this is a great start! We have compiled some instructions and a step by step video after the break!
Sauman over at PPCGeeks found a way to modify the area code database that many HTC devices running Windows Mobile are using. So now when someone calls you your HTC device will display both the city and state name!
WebOS is a pretty versatile Mobile Operating System and the folks at WebOS Internals have managed to run some Linux applications including OpenOffice on a Palm Pre!! It appears you can run X11 on the Palm Pre and this opens up many possibilities for WebOS users.
HTC Sense came with a Twitter tab out of the box and I always thought it would make sense for them to create a Facebook tab as well. The Sprint Samsung Moment was recently rooted and with the recent release of a leaked Android 2.1 update for the Samsung Moment the folks @ SDX-Developers are extremely busy! The rooting / jaibreaking instructions apply to Android 2.1 only. A rooted Android phone gives you access to custom ROMs, unofficial applications and more.
The iPhone Dev Team is really hard at work these days and they have jailbroken the iPhone OS 4.0 Beta and released a video to prove it. This is the same team that ported the Spirit jailbreak hack for the iPad recently. See the video after the break!
Sprint Samsung Moment’s owners have been waiting for an Android 2.1 update for a while now and thanks to the community this update is finally there! Sprint is also working on an update which might come soon but we don’t have any ETA yet. Full details after the break!
Paul from Android @ Modaco has been working on porting the HTC Desire ROM to the Google Nexus One and while working on this he has been able to run the HTC Camera application from the HTC Desire on the Nexus One without HTC Sense! For those of you who don’t like to run HTC Sense, you can now benefit from the nice camera application without the overhead of running a custom ROM with HTC Sense on your Google Nexus One.
Several months ago we told you about a browser called Skyfire for Windows Mobile which was able to stream Flash videos from any website including Hulu. It worked for a while but then Hulu decided not to allow Skyfire users to view any videos but it now appears it is possible again to watch any Hulu videos on your Windows Mobile device using Skyfire!
Back in January we mentioned that a HTC Sense UI theme for MetaMorph was available. It gave Motorola Droid users a look and feel similar to the HTC Hero and others HTC devices running Android.There is now another option to enjoy the HTC Sense UI on the Motorola Droid thanks to a custom ROM.
We didn’t have to wait too long! The iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd confirmed on Twitter that the iPad is jailbroken thanks to a port of the iPhone Spirit jailbreak hack. Soon we will be able to jailbreak the brand new Apple iPad and enjoy unofficial apps on the iPad!
Paul from Android @ Modaco recently tweeted that he was able to get root access on the 2 latest HTC devices running Android: HTC Legend and HTC Desire. Apparently it was a pretty simple job, too easy for him ;) More info after the break!
With Palm being in a dire situation the Palm Pre is not getting a lot of love these days even so it is a pretty nice device! The guys at PreCentral are still using their Palm Pre and some developers were able to overclock it and released 2 new custom Linux kernels: 720MHz and 800MHz. More after the break!
